3D Characters and Objects: Needle Felting Workshop

Beginners, refreshers, and those seeking improvement are welcome to attend. 

 

The art of needle felting has been around for a long time. It is a process of using sharp needles to sculpt wool into the desired shape.

 

It uses a special barbed needle to felt wool fibers together. It is a popular craft and can be applied to create fun characters or dolls and objects for the home. It is also a fun and relaxing activity. Needle felting is a great way to express creativity and make something unique. Additionally, it provides a great opportunity to learn about fiber arts. Aside from improving fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, it also helps you practice patience and concentration.

Materials: On the day of the workshop, all materials will be provided. The materials and where they can be purchased will also be listed in a written handout.

This workshop will cover: needle felting materials, drawing or designing characters and objects for felting, creating/making basic shapes, making characters and/or decorative ornaments.

The workshop will begin with a discussion about needle felting materials and safety. After that, you'll begin exercises to explore drawing and development in order to design and plan what you want to create, even if it's just a loose sketch (you don't have to be an expert in drawing). In order to create our final pieces, we will first explore making simple shapes using wool, then developing those shapes into beautiful characters and/or objects. Upon completion of these exercises, you will create your own ornament or character. Our next step will be to discuss finishing touches and embellishments. Finally, we will admire our creations and discuss how they can be further developed and altered.
