Creative Zine Design Workshop

This workshop is for all levels (open to beginners, those looking to refresh their skills, or those with experience wanting to take part in zine making).

Perhaps you want to push your work further by learning more about design principles. If you are interested in making your own fun zine, this workshop is right for you!

This workshop is a great way to explore your creative side and perhaps push your ideas even further. Plus, it's a wonderful way to meet other people who are interested in similar topics. The workshop will provide a fun, creative, and collaborative learning environment. At the end of the workshop, you will have the confidence to make your own zines or develop past zine designs even further.

Materials: all the necessary materials will be provided on the day of the workshop. The handout will include a list of all materials and where you can obtain them.

This workshop will cover: 

the basics of design principles and the role they play in zine design, layout and planning, typography suitability and hierarchy, and how you can illustrate your ideas using different materials. We will discuss binding and the appropriate types of binding for your zine. We will also explore mood boarding and brainstorming techniques to help you come up with creative concepts for your zine. You'll also learn how to choose colours and how to use colour to create the desired mood. You'll also learn how to create catchy cover designs that will capture the attention of your readers. We will discuss how to create a cohesive aesthetic throughout your zine and how to make sure all elements fit together.

We will begin the zine workshop with a discussion about the zine movement, exploring the history of zines, their various applications, and the tools and techniques used to create them. Before working on our individual zines, we'll explore mood boarding, brainstorming, exploring type, colour, layout and planning.

Finally, we will end the workshop with a zine showcase to celebrate everyone's accomplishments and work.
