Journal and Magazine Design: Layout and Aesthetics

This workshop is is a digital-based workshop taught online. It is open to all levels (beginners and those looking to refresh their skills). Perhaps you want to improve your work by learning more about design principles and exploring aesthetics (visual appeal). A great workshop for those interested in making their own magazines or journals! 

 

In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore your creative potential and maybe take your ideas to the next level. You will learn the basics of Adobe InDesign (as this is the industry standard software most commonly layouts and page design), as well as how to plan your project and put it together. You will also have the chance to receive feedback and guidance from an experienced designer. You will be given the opportunity to design your own work and receive valuable feedback. By the end of the workshop, you should have the skills and confidence to create your own journal or magazine.

Materials: you will need a computer with Adobe Creative Suite and a strong, consistent internet connection for this online course. Alternatively, you can download a free trial version from the Adobe official website. Ideally, you should set up the trial version prior to the workshop so you can put what you learn into practice before the trial expires.

This workshop will cover: 

this introductory workshop aims to cover key techniques and features, including setting up new documents, workspaces, working with pages, layers, styles, shapes, frames, and placeholders, formatting text, working with styles, placing images, using layers, and preparing to print. Additionally, a review of InDesign's tools will be provided during the workshop.

A hands-on, practical approach is used in this InDesign workshop. The necessary theory will be taught and the techniques demonstrated step-by-step. Afterward, you will practice the skills taught on an InDesign-enabled computer. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to ask questions.
